Zest is one of the 24 strengths possessed by humanity. As a component of the virtue of courage, zest is defined as living life with the sense of energy and excitement. In its 14th edition, Zest’ 16 came up with the theme,”Agnipankh” which fosters the desire of an individual and struggle of one to achieve the highest goal in life.
Inauguration & Day 1
Mr. Rajendra Kulkarni, Chief Finance Head of BVG India Ltd. was the chief guest for the inauguration ceremony. After the introduction of all the dignitaries and chief guest by the anchor the trophy of Zest’16 was unveiled, coming up on the stage through a robot created by the Robot Study Circle of COEP.
Following it was the oath ceremony taken by General Secretary. The oath remarked the true spirit of sportsmanship and the responsibilities of a sport’s person. After the oath marching ceremony was held. Every college raised their baton to the top of their shoulder.
Zest’ 16 had total of 88 events which were divided in 7 different modules the name of which are based on 7-different Indian-Guided missiles. The most interesting thing about this year zest was the athletic track which was designed this year on the COEP ground and the team of zest had also come up with the LED screens in order to update the audience about various events happening on the ground.
Every year zest includes a Social Cause related to the theme. And this year too, Zest’ 16 tried to reach out all those kids who have the potential in the field of sports but lack the resources so under the social initiative “utkarsha” Zest’ 16 will provide them economic support and the training to help them achieve their goals in life in association with the NGO Pankhudi which is a foundation working for the cause of care of slum, orphaned and disabled children. The most interesting event of Day 1 was the wheelchair basketball in association with Paraplegic Rehabilitation centre, Kirkee, Pune which is meant for the after care and rehabilitation of personnel’s of Defence forces of India who are medically boarded out. The event started with the introduction as well as felicitation of the players from PRC followed by their match.
In addition to all these events COEP also announced their 4th Guinness record attempt and showed the audience the small glimpse of “Prajyot”; the 28,000 wide rangoli.
Further Ahead...
The stunt show of Bikes was displayed by the group members of Stunt Trek. The valor of these boys were appreciated by all the people. Almost all the people became numb as they were performing their stunts.
Two pro kabbadi players YOGESH HUDDA and JASMIR SINGH of Puneri Paltan were also there to make the event more prosperous. Jasmir Singh from Haryana is a player in Indian National Team. He represented India in many competitions like Indo Russian Games which was held in Macau,China and he has also represented India in South Asian Games in 2007. Yogesh Hudda is also from Haryana and a national level player and has played in national team 2 times and is now playing for Puneri Paltan.
Zest 2016 had total of 88 events which comes under 7 modules. Zest’ 16 includes participants from 24 states across the nation.

Summary : Coep Zest is already one of the best sporting events in the city. The fact is quite evident when you look at the huge number of people that turn out to watch the games. The event spanning across 4 days was planned, organized and executed smoothly.
