The Indian Pharmaceutical Association Student’s Forum – Pune branch, in collaboration with the NASA SpaceApps Challenge is ready to conduct their prestigious Model United Nations conference on October 19th-20th 2024 which is named PharmAstro MUN 2024.

The unique, yet powerful collaboration proudly announces “The PHARMASTRO MUN 2024” to explore the domains of health and science . Engaging the delegates into dynamic debates and discussions which will allow them to confront and beat global issues through the lens of diplomacy, leading to global progress.

The event is well planned by the committee which includes secretary General – Mr. Animesh Mishra, Vice-Secretary General – Mr. Atharva Lepse, Director Generals- Ms. Prachi D’sa, Ms. Shreyasi Banerjee, Mr. Arnav Choudhary.

With the registrations still going on, students can register their seat by paying the variable fees ranging from Rs.1650 to Rs.2250 based on the committee chosen, giving them an opportunity to learn the skills of efficient research,critical thinking, public speaking and win exciting cash prizes by competing as a best delegate, best journalist, and many more.

What sets the PharmAstro MUN 2024 apart?

Efficiently hosted the previous MUN conferences, both the organisations integrated the expertise of their domains focusing on the respective geopolitical topics The PharmAstro MUN will provide delegates from diverse fields with the opportunity to reach well-rounded conclusions by analyzing global issues through the lens of their own expertise. This interdisciplinary approach will help them better understand the complexities of these challenges and collaborate on effective solutions.

Topics of discussions

The global issue of fake medicines and drug safety has become a significant concern impacting the public health, economy and respective regulations of the government. The UNODC committee will scrutinize the processes and bodies involved behind the supply of fake medicines and unsafe drug handling, by the assistance of international cooperation and reframing the legal enforcements.

Also, the issue of women’s participation in the politics at global level due to existing legal reservations. Although acting as a pivot to the women empowerment in politics, the challenges remain in ensuring that the measures of the legal reservations lead to substantive, not just symbolics and participation. The UNCSW commitee, here, will analyse the relations between legal reservations and women’s participation in politics.

The topic of conducting a caste census and extending the “creamy layer” principle to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) has sparked considerable debate in India, particularly in relation to the management of reservations. The AIPPM, being the bridge between political ideologies and public interest, will act as an ideal platform for political parties representing diverse socio-economic groups to deliberate on the complexities of the caste census and the creamy layer issues, to draft recommendations for shaping policies aiding to long term impact on social justice

Event Format

The conference will be stretched fortwo days : October 19th – 20th , at the Sinhagad Institute of Pharmacy Narhe, where the delegates will model as diplomats of assigned nations in the UN commitees and bodies. It allows the young explorers to draft resolution, debate on global conflicts ; sowing seeds of sharps skills of public speaking, research, analyzation of treaties and policies. The bustle of the delegates and their plethora of perspectives refracted will surely take care of the entertainment of listeners’ present at the conference.

The discussion will be carried out in two formats

  1. Moderated Caucus:
    ● A structured debate format led by the committee chair
    ● Chair selects delegates to speak for a fixed time per speaker
    ● Allows focused discussion on specific sub-topics
  2. Unmoderated Caucus:
    • Informal negotiations between delegates without chair oversight.
    • Participants are free to move around and have open group discussions
    • Allows delegates to share viewpoints, make deals, and reach consensus
