After seeing the Ganpati festival in Valher, Nanasaheb Priviwale of Pune was motivated to bring society together for independence. Due to Pune’s image as a traditional city, he first faced resistance when he pitched the idea there. Lokamanya Tilak called a meeting to which he invited Mayavars, the Nagarsheth of Pune, and Dagdusheth Halwai. They made the decision to hold the seven-day Ganpati event in five different cities, with local money providing the funds. The people was encouraged to participate by Lokamanya Tilak due to the good response, which resulted in a ten-day festival in 1893.

Unlike the conventional warrior forms of Ganesha, Dagdusheth Halwai presented an idol that is kind to the environment. This idea sought to uphold and defend society. This idol was made by Shri Naik and is now used as the emblem for the Ganesh Utsav held by the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust.
